Rod Stewart Releases Festive Charity Single, ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ on Dec 9th, in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer Trust

Rod Stewart embraces the true meaning of Christmas with a seasonal charity single, ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, taken from his hit album ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’, released December 9th!

A share of the proceeds from the single will be split between two charities near and dear to Rod’s heart (please see note* below for full details): Teenage Cancer Trust is a chosen recipient of Celtic Charity.

Gennaro Castaldo of music retailer HMV, comments: “Rod is going head to head with this year’s X Factor finalist on 9th December and is certainly going to give them a great battle. Teenage Cancer Trust is also a wonderful charity that HMV also supports.”

Rod Stewart says:

“I live a blessed and wonderful life and this Christmas it means a lot to me to be able to do something that can help young people with cancer. I really admire the work done by Teenage Cancer Trust and I’m happy that Celtic Football Club’s charity fund will help raise money for such a worthwhile cause”

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival of young people with cancer aged between 13 and 24. They fund and build specialist units within NHS hospitals that bring young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them.

Roger Daltrey, patron of the charity, says: “I’ve worked with Teenage Cancer Trust for years and it’s a cause I’m really passionate about – they do incredibly important work helping young people with cancer. Rod and I have a passion for football and music in common, it’s great to see him involved with Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Billy Connolly, patron of The Celtic Foundation and Celtic Charity says: “Having somebody like Rod Stewart on hand to help us continue the Fund’s work, in what is such a special year for the Club as a whole, is fantastic.”

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell added: “Celtic has always been more than a Club, we have a unique history and one which is characterised by helping those in need.  Rod has been a massive supporter of the Club and we sincerely appreciate the huge contribution which he is making to our charitable work.”

Celtic are currently celebrating their 125th anniversary. Celtic Charity Fund was set up in 1995 to support charitable causes in the line with the founding principles of Celtic Football Club and aims to help communities across the world. As part of this commitment, Celtic Charity has chosen to support Teenage Cancer Trust.

“I cannot wait to get back on the road again especially in the UK where the fans always make it a very special occasion for me. The June tour is going to be fantastic!” – Rod Stewart

The announcement of the tour caps an extraordinary year for Rod Stewart. His book ‘Rod:The Autobiography’, released last month saw him take a candid and romping look back at his life both on and off the stage.  From his humble British roots – to his hell-raising years touring with the trailblazing bands ‘The Jeff Beck Group’ and ‘The Faces’, not forgetting his great loves (including three marriages and eight children) and decades touring the world as a solo performer, Stewart’s book is a riveting ride through one of Rock’s most remarkable lives.

Coinciding with the announcement of his tour, this month also sees the release of his first ever Christmas album ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’ released today through Verve Records. ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’ sees Rod Stewart joined by a number of A-list guests, starting with Michael Bublé, who duets with Rod on “Winter Wonderland.” “We Three Kings” is a duet with Mary J. Blige; and the title tune “Merry Christmas, Baby” is a duet with Cee-Lo Green featuring New Orleans’ favorite son, Trombone Shorty. “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” features Dave Koz on saxophone and “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” is a very special ‘virtual’ duet with Ella Fitzgerald featuring Chris Botti. The album also includes other Christmas classics such as “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” and Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas”.

Performing all his hits and most recognizable tracks including ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’, ‘Maggie May’, ‘Baby Jane’ and ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’, Rod Stewart’s summer shows are set to raise temperatures across the country. With a career now in its fifth decade, Stewart has sold over 100 million records worldwide with six consecutive number one albums, 62 hit singles including 31 top 10s and six number 1s. Stewart has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on two occasions, once as a solo artist and once as a member of Faces.
